Look beyond the ingredient name

Powdered sugar and granulated sugar belong in different entries. Whole nuts and chopped nuts may need different references too. Match the ingredient form before using the result.

Follow the recipe’s own weights first

A published conversion chart is a useful fallback. When a recipe author provides a weight for their ingredients, use that figure for that recipe. It may intentionally differ from the reference adopted here.

A transparent reference, every time

Ingredient pages identify the source and the cup basis used by this site. Values for other cup systems are calculated from the adopted basis and are estimates of recipe equivalence.

A few useful answers

Kitchen questions, answered.

Why is my ingredient missing?

The directory includes supported references, not every possible food. A missing ingredient should remain unavailable until a suitable source and preparation definition have been added.

Can I substitute one flour for another?

A measurement conversion does not establish a recipe substitution. Ingredients can behave differently even when their weight is identical.

Sources behind the numbers
